You’ve no doubt watched a ball game where the ref makes a bad call against one team, then, the next time down the court he makes a questionable call against the other team. In this example, the second call is what is commonly referred to as a ‘make-up call’, where the ref tries to make things ‘right’ for both teams, knowing he screwed up the first time.
Now, there’s not one ref in any game today that’s going to actually admit that ‘make-up calls’ exist. But we all know they do.
I can honestly tell you that this blog post is most blatantly and unquestionably a ‘make-up call’.
The last two weeks of December, I got so busy with so many things, I took a couple of weeks off from posting my review of the Top Voiceover Blog Posts This Week. As fate would have it, Doug Turkel, one of the most-read and respected voiceover talents/bloggers online, and a guy who I consider to be a very good friend, posted another one of his amazing works, during that time, which thus went unrecognized by me. Oops.
I read Doug’s post when it came out and thought it was fantastic. Knowing Doug has a large following of regular readers to his blog, I didn’t give it much thought that it wouldn’t show up in my ‘vacationing’ review. He doesn’t need my pub. Trust me.
But to my surprise, and admiration, I received the following in an email from Doug after I posted this past weekend’s review of Top VO Blog Posts that didn’t include his from over a week ago:
“Damn, remind me never to publish a new post while you’re on vacation.”
I am honored that Doug thinks so much of my blog to be upset he was omitted. As you can see, I owe ‘Team Turkel’ a make-up call.
I HIGHLY recommend you take the time to read Doug’s latest article…

And rest assured, I’ll make the right call the first time, next time!
